Copynotes: N.B. The Faerie Queen is the second of two titles bound in this volume. The other title is Drayton's Poly-olbion. The text is in good condition but with a slight "buckling" of the paper. There has been repair to the binding (17th/18th century sprinkled calf with pairs of blind fellets towards outer edges, and 2 pairs parallel to spine; blind roll around board edges; evidence of chaining towards head of uuper foredge) including a new spine and at present the front board is loose. Editionnotes: The second part has a separate t.p. reading "The second part of The faerie queene ...". In later issues this second t.p. is dated "1612" or "1613" and the sheets that follow are from the 1612/13 edition (STC 23083.7) Later issues were usually issued by Lownes with other works by Spenser [i.e. A letter of the authors. To Sir Walter Raleigh (23086.3); The shepheardes calender (23093.5) and Colin Clouts come home againe (23077.3). Woodcut head- and tail-pieces, borders and device on t.p. and in colophon. The t.p. of the second part bears the author's name. Signatures: A-P6 Q4 R-Z6 Aa-Hh6 (Hh6 is blank) (STC 23083.7) or A-Y6, 2A-2H6, 2I4 (STC 23083). By Edmund Spenser, whose name appears on A1v. In verse. First word of title is xylographic. The second part has separate dated title page on Q5r; pagination and register are continuous. "Tvvo cantos of mutabilitie", p. 353-end [i.e. the 7th book] The last leaf is blank.
